It's been awhile since I posted anything on here, so I thought it was time for an update on what's been happening in P.E. class at LWS.
After we came back from winter break, we started our bowling unit. The K-2 classes focused on learning how to grip the bowling ball correctly, using a 3 step approach, throwing off their opposite leg, and using the arrows to aim. In grades 3-5, the students focused on form along with learning how to keep score the "official" way.
Bowling gives students an exposure to a lifetime sport, incorporates math skills, and gives kids the opportunity to work on object handling skills.
Here are some pictures from our bowling unit:
After our bowling unit, we started our heart unit. In the heart unit, students learn all the different parts of the heart and how the blood flows through the heart and the body. At the end of our heart unit the students get to go through an obstacle course that's set up like the heart. During our heart unit this year we have been raising money for Jump Rope for Heart. All the money that we collect as a school will be donated to the American Heart Association.
Below are a few pictures of students participating in our Jump Rope for Heart event during P.E. classes. Students got to listen to music as they went through various stations that involved jumping.
Currently, the 3rd-5th graders are in a basketball unit, they are practicing different skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting. The K-2nd graders are in a unit of cooperative games. They recently did some parachute activities and are learning the importance of teamwork. Below are some pictures of some 1st graders during the parachute activities.
