LWFL

The Louise White Flag Football League started last night. This year we have 5 teams in our league. This year we have the Ducks, captained by Dylan R, the Leathernecks, captained by Ryan B., the Patriots, captained by Dylan K., the Gators, captained by Jake K., and the Irish, captained by Ryan W.

Last night the Ducks used a very strong defense to defeat the Patriots 54-14. After the tough 1st quarter, the Patriots were able to put a few nice offensive drives together and find the endzone twice. The next game will be on Monday, October 1st between the Gators and the Irish. Congratulations to both the Patriots and Ducks on a well played game!

Updated LWFL standings:

Ducks 1-0
Leathernecks 0-0
Gators 0-0
Irish 0-0
Patriots 0-1

JDRF

This year we are doing something new at LWS. We are doing a walk and raising money to help find a cure for diabetes. We had a kick-off assembly last Friday in the gym where students learned all about diabetes and why we are trying to raise money. On Wednesday October 3rd, all LWS students will be walking around the path that goes around the softball field to celebrate raising money for JDRF. All students will be walking during their specials time for the first 20-25 minutes. Students can collect donations for the next few weeks, all donations are due on October 19th.

Welcome to the 2012-2013 School Year

It's been a while since I posted on here and we are already in Week 6 of the school year. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have just completed their fitness testing. At LWS we use the Presidential fitness test. The test includes:

1 minute curl-ups (muscular endurance)

pull ups (muscular strength)

sit and reach (flexibility)

shuttle run (agility)

1 mile run or 1/2 mile for 3rd grade (cardiovascular endurance)

The students are encouraged to do their best, and set goals that they would like to achieve by the end of the school year. We will be testing again in April.

3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be starting a tennis unit next week.

K, 1st and 2nd graders have been playing lots of games to improve loco-motor skills such as running, skipping, hopping, jumping, sliding, and galloping. The K, 1st, and 2nd graders are currently playing games to practice and improve overhand and underhand throwing.
