Cooperative games and activities

This past week in P.E. the students in grades K-2 participated in some cooperative games and activities. One of the activities we did included building a "hula-hut." Each group of students had to build a hula-hut from 6 hula-hoops. Next, the entire group had to crawl through in different ways without knocking the hula-hut over. The students learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation through this activity.

1 Mile Run

Students in grades 3-5 finished up their Presidential Fitness tests this week with the 1 mile run (1/2 mile for 3rd grade). The kids did an excellent job as some students improved their times by over a minute from when they did the mile run back in September.

Here are some pictures of the kids running the mile this past week.

K-2 Overhand and Underhand throwing

This past week in P.E. the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders played a few games to practice overhand/underhand throwing. This is something we've practiced previously, and at the end of the year we go back and practice the skills we've learned. One of the games we played is called Battleship. It is kind of played like the board game. For Battleship in P.E., blue gymnastic mats are set up in the middle of the gym creating a wall so the students can't see the other side. Each team sets up 10 bowling pins on their side of the mat. When the game starts, students throw dodgeballs over the wall to the other side hoping they knock down some of the other teams pins. Games are played for 3 minutes, and the team that has the most pins standing up wins the game. Below are a few pictures of the students playing Battleship.

Presidential Fitness test (Sit and Reach)

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders also did the Sit and Reach test this week, as part of the Presidential Fitness Test. The Sit and Reach tests flexibility. Below are some pictures of students performing the Sit and Reach tests along with the scores needed for the Presidential award and National award.
